"Having delivered Healthy Relationships programmes into Nenagh CTC over the past three years, I can firmly say that the tutors and management strive to weave the young people's holistic social and emotional health and development across all programmes." I spent two years attending Nenagh CTC and in my opinion it’s one of the best experiences to learn from in this small town. The opportunities they have are all brilliant, whether its learning from the great practical courses they have or meeting new people and forming a community this centre has it all. The tutors here are excellent and you won’t find better elsewhere although it’s the learners that make this place great we all come from different walks of life but yet still come together to make a strong community that we’ve all become proud to be a part of and continue our friendships outside the centre.
Spending time in the woodwork room has helped me tremendously with my mental health and the fact you got a qualification at the end was great too. We got to take part in great projects such as working on the illen boat project spending time with my peers helping to repair that boat was one of the best memories I’ll take with me. Conor |
For my 4th year in St. Angela’s College Sligo, I decided to carry out my placement in Nenagh Community Training centre. When I made contact with the manager of the centre, Rose, she was more than happy to take me on as a student teacher and welcome me onto the team. I completed 4 weeks of teaching in the centre and I can honestly say that it was my most rewarding placement throughout my teaching degree. Every student in the centre and member of staff had a smile on their face every day. It was evident from my first day in the centre that lots of activities took place in the centre due to the beautiful displays on the wall- I was lucky enough to be there for pancake Tuesday and taste Carmel and the catering teams amazing pancakes! I carried out a meal service module with 3 learners, just one of the modules offered to learners in the centre which prepares them with skills for life and the working world. I introduced a new module to all the learners in the centre looking at the history of the Irish language and our culture which sparked interest in many learners. The support offered to learners in the centre by Rose and her team is second to none. It is clear on having completed my placement in the centre that the learners always come and this is a place in which I would love to be a part of in the future!
